36 feet of canvas, a lot of paint and many rehearsals; a collaboration with the Unbound Ballet Project

  • Paint and marks

We had 9 foot wall covered in canvas down to the floor, a 16 feet across the floor and up the opposite wall 9 feet. I stood on ladders with the help of friends and poured down the paint. The timing was important, the correct consistency of paint was important, and the colors and the order of colors was also planned.

  • Movement and choreography

Choreography by Crystal Wellman, Amanda Lane Evans and Elizabeth McDuffie from the Unbound Ballet Project. Video by Noah Krueger.

  • Serendipity

While dance is typically a series of fleeting acts, the painted marks freeze these moments in time. The gravity of the paint and the dancers’ movement interact serendipitously.
